Note to my moderator

Dear moderator,

Thank you for taking the time to mark my blog. I have worked really hard on the work I have produced and I hope that you like my final music video for 'Closer' by my artist Kai ft. Holly. I think my ancillary texts have used creativity and I have tried to use more software.

Merchandise

Seeing as our Artist Kay is a worldwide superstar, we have then decided to make certain merchandises including what he says in his songs.

We have provided some Merchandise products such as; t shirts, jumpers, mugs, and sunglasses with the Name KAY on the side of it. This is to widen our artists publicity and let the fans get as involved in he`s #EYESONME tour.

We would also use social media and e-media to help to promote these products.

Don Moen is a very famous Gospel artist who is based in America but has also featured with UK artist such as KICC Choir Leader and also artists such as Celeste, Gospel music has been "grooved" up so people can enjoy it in their car without feeling down because it is slow.

The Pitch

Our video will start with Kay the main artist walking on top of a bridge looking very distressed and unhappy, we do this straight away so that the audience will begin to question what is wrong, and as Kay is walking he begins to drag he`s feet and start to look around as if he misplaced something or looking for something, he then carries on he,s journey and he is asking random people for directions including a ice cream truck driver, and then it is like he carries on an endless journey to wherever he is going to and then it is the same for Holly as she also is wondering around looking for something and she is trying to call someone however the person seems unavailable and she starts to get frustrated as it sounds like she wants to say something very important, however turns out they are both lovers that are both taking a break from their relationship and there is that hint of contrast in the video as both artist are in different places both very far from themselves as Kay is in London and Holly is in the countryside in Ongar so the audience can see how big the difference is from their distance, however they finally come together in a neutral location. The idea of Kay and Holly filming together did not go well however they came to conclude that filming by themselves would help show the content of the song itself especially with the title "Closer".

Questionnaire for Audience (Before Filming)

1. What would you like to see in a music video?
2. What is your favourite music video?
3. What is your favourite genre in music, and why?
4. What do you not like to see in music videos and why?
5. Who is your favourite artist?

Our Influence

We were influenced to choose our music due to what was classified as "hot" on the streets for the youth and the song "Closer" was practically the anthem for last years summer so we decided to select it for our Music video, we have been also influenced by also pop artists such as Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift flow hence why we mostly exaggerated our lip syncing, we had watched several of their videos to see how they attracted more audience to watch their video rather than listen to the song and focusing on the camera at all times was the main thing and also what they wore and their location the video was shot at.

Laura Mulvey The Male Gaze

Mulvey states that “the gender power asymmetry is a controlling force in cinema and constructed for the pleasure of the male viewer, which is deeply rooted in patriarchal ideologies and discourses.” This means that the male viewer is the target audience, therefore their needs are met first and that this problem stems from an old fashioned, male-driven society. Her theory on how women are portrayed in film and the media is just as prevalent today as it was in 1975 when her text was first published.

Mulvey believes that women are in fact “the bearer of meaning and not the maker of meaning,” which suggests that women are not placed in a role where they can take control of a scene, instead they are simply put there to be observed from an objectified point of view. In addition, she believes that this way of watching film is never alternated so that the men are in fact the ones who are being viewed in this manner. This inequality enforces the ancient and outdated idea of men do the looking and the women are being looked at

Casting and Auditions

We Auditioned with various students who were interested in playing a role in our music video and we had some really good feedback with the auditions. It is clear from the auditions that the casting would be the people who could make the rehearsal and would be able to dedicate the time and effort when completing this project.

Weather Forecast On Filming Day

We went filming only 3 times in the past 2 months and Thankfully when we went to record our music video the weather was filming permitting, no rain, nor wind so the lip syncing would be much more easier and the main artist could hear the music playing in the background and would be able to follow up on it and make the lip syncing a lot easier.

Day 1 (November 23rd) -2 Degrees However It Was Very Sunny and We Filmed Up In London.

Day 2 - (November 30th) 3 Degrees, Not Too Sunny But The Weather Was Warm Enough, We Filmed In Harold Wood Forest.

Day 3 - (December 18th) -7 Degrees Very Cold This Day Hence the Big Black Jacket in the opening of the Scene, this Was filmed in London Embankment.

List Of Conventions For Music Video

Our Music video is going to be a pop music video however we will contrast from the original conventions of the music video, a normal pop music video would convey through the video dressing and setting, a pop genre song is thew only song that can go on for longer than 3 minutes long up to 5 minutes and it is should always try to have a consistent beat, pop magazines and poster are normally filled with colourful drawings and bold writing to bring out the happiness in the song. However our music video on the other hand seems to contrast with a lot of the normal conventions being involved with the pop genre for example our dress code and costumes and make up are not colourful at all the main artist Kay is dressed in All Black contrasting from the convention of make up and costume, our poster is a simple picture of Kay walking near the London eye, also not following the convention of what is expected in a pop music video as the posters are meant to be colourful and eye catching to the audience although we did follow most of the other conventions such as the time structure, the target audience and the consistency of the beat and a lot more, we just decided to add a bit of tragedy into our pop convention
